The Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) annually honours outstanding Austrian dissertations with the Award of Excellence. This year, IAIK Postdoc Peter Pessl, who finished his doctoral studies "sub auspiciis", received this prestigous award for his thesis 'Side-Channel Attacks on Lattice-Based Cryptography and Multi-Processor Systems'. In his work, he expands side-channel attacks, which exploit that physical properties of an electronic device depend on processed secrets, to new fields. Concretely, he proposed new attacks on lattice-based cryptography - a new type of cryptographic algorithms secure against attacks by future quantum computers. Congratulations!
