SETIC

Project Description

For secure data exchange (e-commerce, electronic banking etc.) between an electronic system and a person, security tokens for authentication are not enough. We need also secure keyboards or secure card terminals for such data exchange. Within the SETIC project we will developed an universal Secure Terminal IC (Integrated Circuit) out of an advanced smart-card processor kernel. With this single chip solution it will become possible to develop secure terminal solutions in a simple and economic way. Market evolution during the first 12 month of the project had shown, that the demand of high secure readers did not come up as expected at the begin of the project. Therefore the project SETIC was closed down in December 2001. This decision was taken by the project coordinator and all partners. At this time, IAIK's development of the AES crypto core was nearly finished. An FPGA prototype of the crypto module, including key generator and interface was successfully tested. The outcome of our development is available as AES IP-module for smart-cards.
