PROACT

Programm for Advanced Contactless technology

PROACT is a research and teaching programme. PROACT intends to intensify training for students in RFID-related topics to provide industry with more qualified graduates specialized in RFID, and will promote research in several fields connected with RFID devices and systems. A major goal within the programme is to install a professorship ("Stiftungsprofessur") at TU Graz. Research will build on already rich existing expertise.

PROACT activities are carried out by researchers and teachers of Graz University of Technology. The programme is sponsored by Philips Semiconductors Styria, the RFID competence center of Philips and market leader in RFID technology.

PROACT has ambitious goals to strengthen research and education for advanced contactless technology. PROACT wants to

  • intensify teaching for short-range RF communication covering foundations and applied fields
  • increase the number of graduates with in-depth specialization
  • bring together already existing expertise from academia and industry
  • establish all pre-conditions for a center of excellence by funding research activities and by installing a professor at the TU Graz
  • advertise the Graz area as a center of excellence in RFID research and as a center of RFID-specific education
  • create new fields of application for short-range RF communication technology

PROACT provides financial incentives to teachers and researchers to achieve its goals. PROACT funding is intended for starting, deepening, and expanding activities that are crucial for the future of RFID technology. The instruments for intensifying activities fall into the categories: education, research, and dissemination.
