Topics for Student Projects & Master Theses

Our topics for student projects (seminars/projects at bachelor and master level) and master theses are usually closely related to our current research projects. Details about the currently offered student projects or master theses (title, description, contact person, etc.) can be found in the "Teaching" area of IAIK's website. Please follow the respective "Read more >>"-links below.

General Topic Areas

In the list below you can find a selection of general topic areas for student projects and master theses available in the IMPA Lab. You are welcome to contact somebody of the members of the IMPA Lab or stop by at IAIK to find out more about possible topics.

Side-channel analysis
Investigating newly proposed side-channel attack techniques for their practicability and/or improving side-channel attacks by yourself
Developing general or specific test systems (test boards with or without FPGA, chip tester, etc.) to attack cryptograhic devices (ASIC chips, microcontrollers, smart cards, etc.) via the side-channels power and electro-magnetic radiation
Evaluating software implementations of symmetric (e.g. DES, AES) or asymmetric (e.g. RSA, ECC) algorithms on various platforms (e.g. smart cards, microcontrollers) via power and electro-magnetic analysis and investigating possible countermeasures
Security analysis of particular cryptographic devices like the "Titanium" card, which is an Atmel-based smart card that is advertised within the Pay-TV community and includes a secure microcontroller with a security-enhanced operating system
etc.
Fault analysis
Investigating practical fault injection methods
Evaluate proposed fault attacks for their practicability
Develop new fault attacks and/or countermeasures
etc.
Others
etc.
