4th European

When IT infrastructure technologies fail to keep pace with emerging threats, we can no longer trust them to sustain the applications we depend on in both business and society at large. Ranging from Trusted Computing, to machine virtualization, new hardware architectures, and new network security architectures, trusted infrastructure technologies attempt to place security into the very design of commercial off-the shelf technologies.
The Fourth European Trusted Infrastructure Summer School will be held in Graz, 29th August - 4th September 2009. The venue will be Hotel Novapark. Local organisation will be led by IAIK, Graz University of Technology and Stiftung SIC.
The previous events have been in Oxford (2006 and 2008) and Bochum (2007), and have attracted a range of participants from across Europe. We hope that the same will be true for the fourth summer school: ETISS is aimed at all researchers in the field of IT security with an interest in systems and infrastructure security, as well as younger masters or PhD students who are new to the field. Funding is available to support student attendance. The event will include introductory and more advanced lectures, practical labs, and research seminars. Many of those who have been instrumental in shaping the emerging Trusted technologies will to be among the lecturers

Thanks to promised generous sponsorship, once again this year, we hope to be offering a substantial number of bursaries for student attendance. The bursary will cover the full cost of the summer school and accommodation, and a contribution of up to € 150 towards the student's travel costs. How many bursaries will be available can only be decided when the sponsorship amounts are fixed!

The Styrian capital of Graz is famous for its high quality of life and stands out as a vital business location and as a center of science, research and culture. The city lies at an intersection of several European cultures. Romanic, Slavic, Magyar and Alpine-Germanic influences have mixed here to form a uniquely distinctive character. Wandering through the old town, which happens to be one of the biggest historically intact architectural ensembles of the German-speaking world, this character is illustrated in buildings ranging in style from Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Historicism up to Art Nouveau. On December 1, 1999, this singular city center, which has been only very lightly contrasted with modern architecture, became a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. 2003 was one of the most significant years in our history. Graz was named "Cultural Capital of Europe" by the EU Ministries of Culture. With a vital and colorful cultural program, Graz managed to attract visitors from all over the world and generate an ongoing resonance. As a cultural capital, Graz has claimed a significant place on the map and today is mentioned in the same breath as Vienna and Salzburg. Graz understands this multicultural tradition, which has characterized the city for decades, as the fundament for its cultural and political identity. Today, Graz continues to be a place of international encounter and intercultural and inter-religious dialogue. All Photos (C) Graz Tourismus GmbH
